7 underpasses, 4 interchanges planned for Islamabad Highway

ISLAMABAD—The Capital Development Authority has planned to construct seven underpasses and four interchanges on Islamabad Highway from Faizabad Fly-over to Rawat in order to reduce traffic congestion over the highway.
In addition to this 24 feet wide service road would also be constructed along both sides of the Highway, separating heavy and speedy traffic from local transport, official sources said.
The planning wing of CDA has prepared the plan and submittedit to Authority’s Board of Directors for approval.
Under the plan four interchanges would be constructed at Lehtrar road, Airport link, Kahuta road and Rawat.
Seven underpasses would be constructed at Sohan, Kuri road, near Zia Masjid, near Khana Pull, near Pak PWD Housing Scheme, near Soan garden housing scheme and near Defence Housing Scheme.
An official of planning wing said the project would be started soon after the formal approval of BoDs.
He said expression of interest will be invited from local and foreign construction firms.
He said special measures would be taken to avoid any delay in completion of all such development projects and the selected firms would be strictly directed ton ensure timely completion in line with international standard.
He said the planning wing will focus on cost effective and modern layout plan for which well reputed consultants firms would also be hired.
