Missing in agencies’ custody, says SC

ISLAMABAD—Attorney General (AG) Malik Muhammad Qayyum has informed Supreme Court (SC) more 37 missing persons have been traced out. He submitted before a 3 members bench of SC headed by the Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) during hearing of missing persons case here Thursday. The other two members of bench included justice Muhammad Nawaz Abbasi and justice Shakir Ullah Jan.
After the statement of AG the CJP remarked the solid evidence were available that the missing persons were held by intelligence agencies “ We are giving you concession that missing persons related matter should be regularized”, he further remarked. Aasma Jahangir told the court several names were again incorporated in the list. Most of these names already stood in the list for the month of April. About Imran Nazir who had been recovered, CJP directed he be kept in hospital and medical treatment be provided to him and he be not sent home on the eve of Eid ul Fitr. CJP asked AG how many missing persons had been recovered as per list. AG told whereabouts of Muhammad Faisal, Sami, Idrees Abbasi, Farhad Ali Shah, Moulvi Abdul Manan and Maqsood Ahmad could not be ascertained so far. Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui told the court Ansar Ali had been found. Akbar Aziz Kiani father of Ansar Ali submitted before the court that 3 top officials of ISI had dropped Ansar Ali near Tala Gang road in Chakwal in the late hours of night.
Latif Khar told the court 9 persons have been kept in army camp Balochistan. The CJP directed the police to present report in this connection. Shaukat Aziz advocate told the court Osama Nazir was in the custody of intelligence agencies. President Musharraf had made mention about him in his book In the line of fire. The CJP directed Osama Nazir be recovered and medical facilities be provided to him. The C JP asked whether whereabouts of Masood Janjua were located .
AG told Masood Janjua was not in the custody of ISI. Aamna Masood while citing to Imran Nazir diary told the court that Masood Janjua as per this diary was in the custody of ISI. CJP remarked if the court recorded evidence in this regard, it would affect position of several persons, Court had solid proofs in this regard., he further remarked. AG told the court he would further investigate the matter of Masud Janjua.
Driver of Dr Safdar Sarki filed his affidavit in the court stating SP Chaudhry Aslam had taken him into custody. \ A letter from Dr Safdar Sarki was presented in the court and as per this letter he was in the custody of FIU and he was being subjected to torture there. AG was directed to resolve this matter as soon as possible. AG told the court whereabouts of 10 missing persons from Sindh had been located. Muhammad Faisal, Sami, Ali Haider Bugti, Mehmood Shahid and Luqman had been released while Hamesh Kumar was allegedly killed by the kidnappers.
AG further submitted complete information had not been provided in regard to 125 persons who are placed in Balochistan list. Their addresses are also not available. CJP directed Aamna Masood to provide complete information about these missing persons. One Parveen Akhtat told the court that her meeting was not allowed with her son despite court’s orders.
