PESHAWAR—The NWFP Governor Lt. Gen. (R) Ali Mohammad Jan Aurakzai has
appointed former provincial minister and chairman WAPDA Eng. Shamsul
Mulk as Caretaker Chief Minister of NWFP. He will taking oath of his
office shortly, says an official handout.
The NWFP Governor Ali Muhammad Jan Aurakzai has dissolved the NWFP
Assembly on the advice of the Chief Minister Akram Khan Durrani, said
Secretary Law NWFP Shahid Nasim Khan Chamkani.
Talking to reporters on phone, Secretary Law said, the Governor has
signed the dissolution summary sent by the Chief Minister two hours
before automatic dissolution of the assembly under article 112(1) of the
constitution. The Law Department has issued notification about
dissolution of the provincial assembly, he said. The nomination of
Caretaker Chief Minster is expected any time on Wednesday while the
caretaker cabinet would be announced in few days time.
It merits a mention here that former Chief Minister Akram Khan Durrani
had turned down the request to continue as caretaker chief minister till
the announcement of the election schedule for the general elections in
mid November 2007. Federal Minister for Political Affairs and President
PML NWFP, Engr Amir Muqam on Wednesday welcomed the appointment of
former provincial minister and Chairman Wapda, Engr Shamsul Mulk as
caretaker Chief Minister NWFP.
“Shamsul Mulk’s appointment is in accordance with aspiration of people
and in larger interest of the province,” Amir Muqam told reporters He
said that Shamsul Mulk has not only proved his worth as a technocrat but
is considered a politician with foresight and experience.
The Minister said that his patriotism and honesty is not hidden from any
one, saying that a new era of prosperity and development will start in
the province after assuming the office of caretaker Chief Minister. He
congratulated Shamsul Mulk and hoped that free, fair and transparent
elections would be held under his supervision in the province.

In exercise of the powers under Article 112 (1) of the Constitution of
the Islamic Republic of Pakistan 1973, Lt. General (Retd) Ali Muhammad
Jan Aurakzai, Governor NWFP has dissolved forthwith the Provincial
Assembly of NWFP as advised by Akram Khan Durrani, the Chief Minister of
NWFP on 10th Day of October 2007. A notification to this effect was
issued this morning.
The decision has been made to appoint former provincial minister Shams-ul-Mulik,
who has also been the chairman of WAPDA, as the caretaker Chief Minister
of NWFP. Mr. Shams-ul-Mulik will be sworn as the caretaker Chief
Minister of NWFP tomorrow (Thursday). The caretaker cabinet would be
announced in few days time.
