EDB to expand its functions
ISLAMABAD—Chief Executive Officer Engineering Development Board (EDB)
Almas Haider said Wednesday that EDB would expandits functions in order
to cover various sub-sectors of the engineering industry.
Chairing a meeting of the Board’s officers here, after assuming his
duties as CEO he said the economic future of Pakistan was bright and it
would maintain 6% to 8% economic growth within next 2-3 years.
He observed that Western economies were under pressure of various types
and were planning to shift to low cost economies including China,
Pakistan and India. “Once this shifting process is completed, it will be
difficult for any country to increase its share,” he said. He urged upon
EDB officers to draw attention of the engineering industry to the window
of opportunity in global market, which he added would assist the Board
to get its due share. Almas Haider said EDB could play its role only if
it was turned into a forward looking organization.
