Senate body finalizes amendments in
Senate rules of procedures

ISLAMABAD—The Senate Committee on Rules of Procedures and Privileges,
which met at the Parliament House Tuesday under the Chairmanship of
Senator Syed Tahir Hussain Mashhadi, finalized the draft of the proposed
amendments in the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in the
Senate, 1988. The revised amendments in the Rules of Procedures would
now be placed before the House for approval.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chairman of the Committee said that the
Committee was assigned a monumental task, which it accomplished with
great care and caution keeping in view not only our present day
requirements but also those of the future generations. He expressed the
confidence that by virtue of the amendments proposed by the Committee in
the Rules of Procedures, the Senate would be able to function smoothly
and more efficiently.
The Chairman commended the valuable input provided by the honourable
Members and the painstaking efforts made by the Secretary Committee in
finalizing the draft. He said it was indeed an onerous responsibility
but by the grace of Allah Almighty the Committee had been able to
fulfill the trust and confidence reposed in it.
The Members of the Committee put on record their appreciation of the
role played by the Chairman of the Committee adding that it not only
helped formulate the amendments properly but also encouraged each and
every member to make a worthwhile contribution. They hoped that the task
accomplished by the Senate body would help a great deal in smooth
functioning of the Upper House of the Parliament in all times to come.
The Chairman and the Members of the Committee also placed on record
their profuse appreciation of the important role played by the Minister
for Parliamentary Affairs in carrying the task through.
The meeting was attended, among others, by Senators Naeem Hussain
Chattha, Abdul Razak A. Thahim, Dr. Muhammad Ismail Buledi, Raza
Muhammad Raza, Prof. Muhammad Ibrahim Khan and Ms. Saadia Abbasi besides
the Minister for Parliamentary Affairs and senior officials of the
Ministries of Law, Justice, Human Rights & Parliamentary Affairs.
