‘Army makes remarkable arrangements in earthquake’

ISLAMABAD—President Islamabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry Nasir Khan highly appreciated Pak Army role in Earthquake hit areas of NWFP and Kashmir.
While talking to the traders and industrialist of Islamabad in his office President said that exactly two years before, on 8th October , 2005 worst ever earthquake in this region, measuring 7.6 on the Richter scale, hit most parts of Azad Kashmir and NWFP killing more than 73,000. He added that approximately over 5 million people become homeless in a flash of seconds in affected areas.
He said that it was Pakistan Army efforts that all major roads in the affected areas were opened with in 36 hours after the earthquake. He further said that Pak Army Engineers remained committed in Earthquake affected areas and repaired thousands of miles of roads and construction of shelters for the affected people. It was a miraculous job and they provided lot of facilities to every affected person before beginning of winter. He said that first time in Pakistan history 75,000 troops of Pakistan Army took part for rehabilitation.
He mentioned that Pak Army and domestic and international NGOs had done remarkably in reaching out the remote and inaccessible areas of over 7000 feet by helicopters, and through any other means.
