Grieved families hold mourning ceremony at Margalla Towers

ISLAMABAD— The residents of the Margalla Towers on Monday observed mourning ceremony in commemoration of the tragic earthquake measuring 7.6 on Richter scale, that collapsed their multi-storeyed buildings two years ago.
The second anniversary of the devastating earthquake brought back painful memories of over 70 lives lost among the 143 residents the moment tower collapsed.
Altaf Ahmed, 74 was among the survivors living on 3rd floor from almost six years while sharing his experience said, “I lost my family friends in the tragic incident and still remember them with pain.”
The reason of the collapse, according to the residents was the criminal negligence in construction and supervision instead of earthquake, said Altaf.
Mobeen Ansari lost his 18 years old friend Zuhair Iqbal as they both were living on 8th floor of the building.
While offering “Fatiha” with tearful eyes, he said “the devastating earthquake not only took our homes but also our loved ones and left painful memories for the whole life.”
The administration and students of Imperial International School, situated in front of the towers paid homage to the victims of earthquake by offering Fatiha and holding flowers in their hands.
Assistant Coordinator of the School, Noreen Ashar told this agency that they witnessed all the tragic scenes and lost some of their students who were among the residents of the affected building.
