Cyclist earns one more gold for Pakistan

BEIJING—An impressive performance exhibited by Pakistani Cyclist helped accumulate three more medals including a Gold in the 12th Special Olympics World Summer Games on Sunday.
In all during two-days events that were held at Chong Ming Island off Shanghai, Pakistan collected six medals.
Today Iqra Batool was extremely impressive when she earned Gold in 500 meters cycle race, her time was 1.06 minutes. Tayyaba Fatima won Bronze in the same competition with1.14 minutes.
In Boys Cycling events, Pakistan’s Omair Sarwar bag silver in one Kilometer race. His time was impressive 2.22 minutes.
This was his second silver, yesterday he won first silver in 500 meter race. The main rounds of Badminton commenced today in which Pakistan’s Zubi and Javed were placed 4th in the mixed doubles event where as in the girls singles Shela Naz beat Jamaican girl in three sets 21-13, 18-21, 21-19,
In Male Singles event’s first round Imran Ahmed lost to Russian player in 3 sets in an entertaining and tough match. The score was 21-13, 18-21, 21-19, and Waqas Javed lost to Chinese player 16-21, 10-21. in the same event.
In Basketball event Pakistani Girls lost to India (5-10) in a largely attended match at Lowan Basketball stadium. At half time both teams were locked 2 each. As second half began Pakistani Girls took initial lead to 5-2 but then Indian bounced back and won the match scoring field goals in regular succession.
In the male section of Basketball Pakistan was too good for Sweden winning the match 30-16. The Preliminary rounds of Tennis and Athletics were completed for Pakistani Athletes and their main rounds will commence tomorrow.
However, most of the evening scheduled events were halted due to rain which started pouring in the afternoon. The Met office forecast says a heavy Cyclone on South China Sea is approaching Shanghai some time tomorrow and the out door activities may be suspended for some time.
In the morning Pakistan’s Adil Asif (Global Ambassador Of Special Olympic) addressed a press conference along with the Peter Wheeler the producer of Opening ceremony.
Adil said he was delighted that that Pakistan media is extensively covering the events. He expressed the determination that the media would continue to highlight all Special Persons activities so that we prove to the world that we are no intellectually disabled persons and are blessed with several qualities God has bestowed us.
Peter Wheeler speaking on the occasion said that 80 countries covered the opening ceremony live and media persons from 120 countries are now in China to cover whole event.
“This is unprecedented in the Special Olympic History to have 1400 media men covering World Summer Games Shanghai”. A Chinese official on the occasion disclosed that it was the biggest ever media coverage in Chinese broadcasting history.—Agencies
