250,000 new housing units for FG employees

ISLAMABAD—Ministry of Housing and Works is in the process of initiating
construction work on about 250,000 houses for low income federal
government employees in the federal and provincial capitals.
Secretary Ministry of Housing and Works Abdul Rauf Chaudhry told newsmen
here. He said in the first phase, the construction work on a housing
complex comprising 5,000 residential units for the federal government
employees in the Capital would be undertaken.
The land for this purpose has been identified by the Capital Development
Authority (CDA), he added. He said however, number of housing units in
this phase would be subject to space.
A chain of about 37,000 houses for the low-paid Federal Government
employees on ownership basis would be built in the Federal Capital, he
added.He said while a similar project is being initiated in Punjab
metropolitan for the FG employees from Grade-1 to Grade-16 on ownership
basis. Chaudhry informed that consultations with the Punjab government
over the provision of land continued.
Similarly, work on about 308 housing units has already been kicked off
in Karachi, he added.
He said this facility would also be extended to other two provincial
capitals of the country.
He said these housing projects are being initiated in collaboration with
the provincial and district governments.
The FG employees would be able to get loans from the House Building
Finance Corporation, he added. The Secretary said these houses will be
constructed over the next five years in the four provincial capitals.
In the fiscal budget 2007-08, the government had announced construction
of 250,000 houses for low income employees in the federal and provincial
capitals. |
