Jamia Hifsa reconstruction soon: CDA Chairman

ISLAMABAD—The Chairman of the Capital Development Authority (CDA) Kamran Lashari has said that Supreme Court orders regarding Jamia Hifsa reconstruction would be implemented in letter and spirit and work would be started very soon.
Talking to newsmen here, Lashari said that Lal Masjid has been reopened for congregational prayers on the Supreme Court directives and CDA has spent Rs 17.2 million on the reconstruction and refurbishing of the mosque. He said that the reconstruction work of Jamia Hifsa would be started soon. “The reconstruction work would be started very soon after getting a copy of the Supreme Court orders in this regard,” he stated.
Commenting on blasphemous case against CDA officials while disposing off Lal Masjid and Jamia Hifsa’s wreckage, he said police has not involved any CDA official directly in the case. He said CDA would launch its own inquiry against the officials whose names were mentioned in the police FIR.
Talking about the earthquake victims of Margalla Towers, he said the CDA Board would pay compensation cheques to the victims soon.
Lashari said that after the Supreme Court decision on the issue, CDA has approved grant of Rs 1.70 billion that would be distributed among the victims of the Margalla Tower.
CDA Chairman admitted that traffic problem exist at Kalsoom Plaza due to construction of Sixth and Seventh Avenues but assured that the problem would be solved after construction of China Chowk underpass. Work on the underpass would be completed by November 30, he added.
Commenting on vacant vacancies in the Authority, he said that CDA is currently recruiting new employees purely on merit and the recruitment system is closely being monitored. However, few individual always accused the authorities of irregularities due to personal interests and vendetta.
