Reconciliation should be forged with masses: Aasma
By Hina Kayani
ISLAMABAD—Aasma Jahangir, chairperson Human Rights Commission of
Pakistan said National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO) should not be
person specific but reconciliation should be forged with 160 million
people.
She said this while addressing a press conference here Sunday in a local
hotel. Iqbal Haider, Hina Jillani and others also accompanied her.
Expressing sorrow over incidents of killings and kidnapping of security
personnel in tribal areas she said law and order situation in NWFP and
tribal areas was worst due to activities of religious extremists.
Therefore, transparency in holding of general elections can not be
ensured there, she added.
She alleged government had failed to control the situation in NWFP and
FATA. People are under tremendous pressure as religious militants are
engaged in wanton activities. Girls students are being threatened. The
barbershops are being closed down. CD’s shops are being blown up, she
charged. Security personnel are being killed and kidnapped, she added.
“ We are concerned over it”, she underlined.
People of Balochistan are not scared of the edition imposed by
government, she said adding they are facing no threat from tribal
chiefs.
Government should opt for dialogue rather than conducting operations,
she demanded.
“ We want all missing persons are recovered indiscriminately. Our
struggle will continue till the last missing person is recovered” she
vowed. |
