Real contest
in election between PML & PPPP: CM

LAHORE—Punjab Chief Minister, Ch Pervaiz Elahi has said that the main
contest in the forthcoming general elections will be between Pakistan
Muslim League and Peoples Party as in his view Nawaz League has lost its
political identity.
He said that we will contest the electionson the basis of our
performance and manifesto and there will be no seat adjustment. He said
that PML will contest elections along with its allied parties and will
directly face Peoples Party. He said that people are fully aware of the
performance of the government and PML will emerge victorious in the
elections.
He was addressing a meeting of parliamentary party ofPakistan Muslim
League and its allies at Chief Minister’s Secretariat, here Friday.
Provincial Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs, Mohammad Basharat
Raja, Minister for Agriculture Muhammad Arsahd Khan Lodhi, Minister for
C&W Ch. Zaheer-ud-Din and Deputy Speaker Punjab Assembly ShaukatHussain
Mazari were also present on the occasion.
Ch. Pervaiz Elahi said that the decision of the Supreme Court regarding
presidential election is in accordance with the demands of constitution,
the law as well as justice. He said this decision has also made it clear
that the election of President from the current assemblies is in
conformity with the constitution and law and President Gen. Pervez
Musharraf is eligible to be a candidate. He said that the present
assemblies are the proper forum for presidential election.
He said that this decision is the validation of our political stance as
well as further strengthened democracy in the country. He said that
Pakistan Muslim League alongwith its allied parties will re-elect Gen.
Pervez Musharraf as president for the next five years on October 6 with
a thumping majority so that Pakistan could continue its journey towards
progress and prosperity.
Ch. Pervaiz Elahi said that the re-election of PresidentGen. Pervez
Musharraf will further consolidate democratic system in the country as
well as usher in a new era of development and prosperity. He said that
the elements engaged in the politics of resignations and protests should
well remember that judiciary has termed the procedure and the process of
presidential election in accordance with the law.
He said that Pakistan has made unprecedented progress under the tenure
of Pakistan Muslim League. He said that present leadership has launched
a number of development projects for the uplift and welfare of the
masses which are in the final stages of completion.
He said that PML will clean sweep the forthcoming general elections on
the basis of its glorious performance and will wreak a crushing defeat
on its political opponents. He stressed upon the assembly members to
play their due role for accelerating the pace of implementation of on
going development projects in their respective areas and enter into
political field with full confidence.
He emphasized upon the assembly members to actively participate in the
presidential election tomorrow and display the same spirit and
enthusiasm as is shown by them for their own election.
