today’s Presidential election a milestone in political history

ISLAMABAD—Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz said that Presidential election
being held today (Saturday) is an important mile stone in the political
history of Pakistan and President Pervez Musharraf will gain an historic
success.
Talking to a group of MNAs including Makhdoom Basit Bukhari, Syed Javed
Ali Shah, Syed Muhammad Asghar Shah and Ghukam Murtaza Maitla who called
on him at the Prime Minister’s House here on Friday, he said that
President Musharraf’s successful re-election is in the best interest of
the country and will promote an atmosphere of democracy and prosperity
in Pakistan.
He said it would ensure continuity and constancy of policies essential
for the stability and prosperity of the country. The government is
taking all necessary measures to ensure free and fair elections in the
country, he added.
The Prime Minister said the government is engaging all the political
parties to build consensus on national issues so that we can achieve
stable and productive political environment and can serve the people
better. He said it would enable the government to focus on the
development, serve the masses and would serve the cause of democracy in
the country as well.
The Parliamentarians updated the Prime Minister on the status of
development schemes in their constituencies particularly those relating
to the provision of electricity, gas, clean drinking water and
construction of roads. They said that the people are appreciative of the
development and reform agenda initiated by the government.
The meeting was attended by Special Assistant to the Prime Minister
Commander (Retd) Khail-ur-Rehman, Advisor to the Prime Minister on
Political Affairs Rana Tariq Javed.
