Staff Report
ISLAMABAD—Chairman Private Educational Institutions Regulatory Authority
(PEIRA) Commodore (R) Muhammad Sharif Shamshad said Thursday that
establishment of authority was a sincere initiative to make role of
private sector more effective in promotion of quality education.
Talking to APP, the chairman said the authority was pursuing a flexible
approach on registering private-sector’s institutions to streamline
their role in ensuring quality education for national prosperity.
He added that the PEIRA would also help ensure that private educational
institutions were following a uniform policy. Replying to a question, he
said PEIRA was in contact with unions of private institutions and their
reservations had been addressed.
“Private institutions and their unions have hailed the authority’s
efforts for introducing reforms and provision of guidance to them”, he
added.
The chairman said the authority had, so far, registered about 450
private institutions out of the total 550, working in the Islamabad
Capital Territory.
Similarly, he added that 543 educational institutions had applied so far
and 522 had been inspected.
Answering another question, he said PEIRA teams would conduct inspection
visits of private institutions after every two years to ensure that they
had not stopped following rules and regulations. |
