PM regrets over submission of resignations by opposition

ISLAMABAD—Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz has said that the resignations submitted by some opposition parties are regrettable and termed it an injustice to the voters who elected these members.
The Prime Minister said this while talking to Federal Minister for Interior and President PPP (S), Mr. Aftab Ahmed Khan Sherpao and Minister of State for Education, Ms. Anisa Zeb Tahirkheli.
The participants said that the resignations reflected failure of these parties in facing the ruling coalition in the election. They said the coalition of PML and PPP (S) would take active part in both presidential as well as general elections.
Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz said that the recent developments in the NWFP Assembly would ensure participation of its members in the upcoming presidential election.
The Prime Minister said it is a welcome development, as this will enable every MPA in the NWFP assembly to exercise his right of vote on October 6, thus discharging his political responsibility. Mr. Aftab Sherpao briefed the Prime Minister on overall law and order situation in the country with particular reference to NWFP. The Prime Minister said the situation in the province requires urgent attention and added that the provincial government and law enforcing agencies need to take adequate measures to improve the situation.
Mr. Sherpao also updated the Prime Minister on the status of ongoing development schemes in his constituency. The Prime Minister said the government would provide additional funds for development schemes particularly those relating to the construction of roads and provision of electricity, gas and clean drinking water in NWFP through elected representatives. The Ministers also gave the Prime Minister overall review of their ministries.
Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz has appreciated the role of the Armed Forces in meeting the national challenges both to ensure security and extend help when the country faces disasters. The Prime Minister was talking to outgoing Vice Chief of Army Staff General Ashan Saleem Hayat who called on him at the Prime Minister’s House on Wednesday.
The Prime Minister particularly appreciated the participation of the Army in the earthquake relief and rehabilitation efforts by proving food, shelter and medical care, which saved thousands of lives. He said that the Armed forces have made us proud for rendering services during this very difficult situation. The affectees, he added, will never forget the assistance given by our soldiers particularly in un-accessible areas which could not be reached by any means of transport.
The Prime Minister said that the government is committed in maintaining credible defence through both conventional and strategic capabilities as Pakistan has a major role to play for peace and stability in the region.
The Prime Minister appreciated the services of the outgoing Vice Chief of Army Staff General Ashan Saleem Hayat as a professional soldier who dedicated his career in serving the country. He wished him well for his future endeavours.
The Prime Minister said professionalism, dedication and commitment of Pakistan’s Armed Forces is a source of strength for the country. He said that the people of Pakistan feel proud of them for protecting the country’s boarders and for serving in UN peace keeping mission across the world with a lead role.—Online
