PM regrets
over submission of resignations by opposition
ISLAMABAD—Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz has said that the resignations
submitted by some opposition parties are regrettable and termed it an
injustice to the voters who elected these members.
The Prime Minister said this while talking to Federal Minister for
Interior and President PPP (S), Mr. Aftab Ahmed Khan Sherpao and
Minister of State for Education, Ms. Anisa Zeb Tahirkheli.
The participants said that the resignations reflected failure of these
parties in facing the ruling coalition in the election. They said the
coalition of PML and PPP (S) would take active part in both presidential
as well as general elections.
Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz said that the recent developments in the
NWFP Assembly would ensure participation of its members in the upcoming
presidential election.
The Prime Minister said it is a welcome development, as this will enable
every MPA in the NWFP assembly to exercise his right of vote on October
6, thus discharging his political responsibility. Mr. Aftab Sherpao
briefed the Prime Minister on overall law and order situation in the
country with particular reference to NWFP. The Prime Minister said the
situation in the province requires urgent attention and added that the
provincial government and law enforcing agencies need to take adequate
measures to improve the situation.
Mr. Sherpao also updated the Prime Minister on the status of ongoing
development schemes in his constituency. The Prime Minister said the
government would provide additional funds for development schemes
particularly those relating to the construction of roads and provision
of electricity, gas and clean drinking water in NWFP through elected
representatives. The Ministers also gave the Prime Minister overall
review of their ministries.

in meeting the national challenges both to ensure security and extend
help when the country faces disasters. The Prime Minister was talking to
outgoing Vice Chief of Army Staff General Ashan Saleem Hayat who called
on him at the Prime Minister’s House on Wednesday.
The Prime Minister particularly appreciated the participation of the
Army in the earthquake relief and rehabilitation efforts by proving
food, shelter and medical care, which saved thousands of lives. He said
that the Armed forces have made us proud for rendering services during
this very difficult situation. The affectees, he added, will never
forget the assistance given by our soldiers particularly in
un-accessible areas which could not be reached by any means of
transport.

credible defence through both conventional and strategic capabilities as
Pakistan has a major role to play for peace and stability in the region.
