MMA, APDM
denounce no confidence move
Resignations from PA
to benefit opponents in NWFP: CM
Bureau Report
PESHAWAR—Legislators of Muttahida MMA and All Parties Democratic
Alliance (APDM) in Sarhad Assembly have termed the motion of no
confidence tabled by opposition against Chief Minister Akram Khan
Durrani malafide, while opposition has expressed its strong resolve to
make Musharraf win in the upcoming presidential polls on Wednesday.
According to information, provincial minister Zafar Azam, Fazl Rabbani
Advocate, Asif Iqbal Daoodzai, Kashif Azam, Amanat Shah, Mian Nisar Gul,
Bashir Bilour, Anwar Kamal Marwat and Zafar Ullah Khan Marwat, while
exchanging harsh words, have described no trust motion malafide during
an uproar developed on the tabling of no confidence motion in the House
by opposition members.
“The chief objective for placing no trust motion in House is sheer to
support Musharraf in his presidential polls on Oct 6. But, we will not
let them to do so”, they expressed.
They reposed their full confidence in CM Akram Khan Durrani and said
that they were in majority, while rebuking Ikram Ullah Shahid to mend
his ways as his party Jamiat Ulema Islam (JUI-S) resigned from
assemblies but he is, slyly supporting Musharraf violating party rules.
However, opposition members Mushtaq Ghani, Nighat Orakzai, Rifat Akbar
Swati and Saeed Khan have defended their no confidence move and
expressed their strong resolve to resist every bid to dissolve
provincial assembly to be foiled. They contended that If opposition, is
committed with its launched anti-Musharraf drive, then it should also
quit Senate. Actually, MMA has been deceiving public over last five
years.
Leader of Opposition in National Assembly, Maulana Fazlur Rehman has
said that after tabling of vote of no confidence against NWFP Chief
Minister, the APDM MPAs in provincial assembly will boycott the
Presidential polls on Oct 6.
Talking to newsmen after adjournment of NWFP Assembly special session
convened for holding debate on vote of no confidence motion moved by 31
opposition members belonging to PML(Q), PPP(S) and Independent Members,
Maulana Fazlur Rehman said the opposition parties have created legal
hurdles in our plan of dissolution of provincial assembly.
However, he continued, the MPAs belonging to APDM parties will not take
part in voting for election of President of Pakistan scheduled for Oct
6, next. He said the motion of no confidence was aimed at blocking the
way of dissolution and has no concern with the Chief Minister, Akram
Durrani. Maulana Fazlur Rehman, who witnessed the NWFP assembly
proceedings, said the opposition parties had not done the homework.
About pandemonium during the assembly session, Maulana Fazlur Rehman
said it is part of democracy. However, he hastened to add, the whole
hullabaloo was interesting.
Agencies add: Chief Minister NWFP Akram Khan Durrani said on Wednesday
that the ruling MMA would not resign from the provincial assembly as it
would benefit the opponents and “we will not take any decision that goes
in their interest”.
Talking to reporters here after the assembly session, he said, he was in
contact with the legal experts, Advocate General NWFP and the Law
Department to find out a legal way out of the present impasse. However,
he clarified that he wanted to wind up the assembly as early as possible
keeping in view the legal formalities.
“I am determined that any action I will take, must culminate at
dissolution of the assembly so that no one could cast vote in
presidential election”, he said, adding, “in case we tender
resignations, the opposition will cash on the situation”.
To a question, he said, no APDM member would cast vote during
presidential election on October 6 in NWFP. He added that Pervez
Musharraf was not acceptable to the MMA both in uniform and without it.
