Fate of NWFP assembly hangs in balance
Bureau Report

PESHAWAR—Chief Minister of NWFP Akram Khan Durrani has stressed on dissolution of NWFP Assembly, rather than bringing it down by a no-trust movement. While talking to journalists here at the CM House, he vowed to confront the no-trust movement. He also defended the move of requisitioning of the assembly meeting, saying that any summary to Governor, would have remained pending at his whims.
He said that masses were well aware about the party that held sway, and the fact that no confidence move was just a bid to strengthen the Presidential rule in the Country.
He berated the members for tabling the no-confidence movement, and not bothering to consult him, and strongly defended Maulana Fazl-Ur-Rehman saying that the resignation decision was not his but rather a unanimous decision by APDM.
He yearned for PPP to resign at the moment, since that move could very well create impossibilities for President Musharraf to re-contest his Presidential elections, and warned that the dissolution of NWFP and Balochistan assemblies would render other assemblies hollow.
Replying to a question, he informed that during a meeting with the American ambassador, it has been made clear that the Province was passing through crisis of law and order similar to those of 1980-89, when Russian invasion of Afghanistan took place, and made it clear that Pakhtoons can never be ruled by force, but dialogue, which were the only means of enforcing peace in the province
Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Muhammad Ali Durrani on Tuesday termed the decision of APDM to resign as totally undemocratic. While talking to a private TV, Federal Information Minister said that we are ready to counter Opposition adding that they are using negative tactics to create hurdles in smooth progress of democracy.
He was of the view that PML and its Coalition parties are committed to re-elect President General Pervez Musharraf on October 6. He said that the re-election is in the best interest of the country adding that PML and its coalition parties are strongly backing him, as they believe in continued era of peace, prosperity and progress.
Replying to another question, Information Minister said that resignation of APDM leaders will not have an impact on Presidential elections as it is their own decision to resign from Assembly.
Criticizing Opposition over submitting resignations, Federal Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, Dr. Sher Afghan Khan Niazi has said that the Opposition by this cannot fool the people of Pakistan.
Talking to a private TV Channel, the Federal Minister said that the Presidential Election is constitutional, legal and moral and the resignations would not affect the Presidential Election.
He said that the Opposition by tendering their resignations gave us a way to elect our candidate easily, adding that the National Assembly and all the four Provincial Assemblies would remain intact.
Dr. Sher Afghan Khan Niazi said that the Opposition earlier declared
the Presidential Elections unconstitutional but now they introduced their candidate, adding that the induction of candidates for the slot of the President by Pakistan Peoples Party Parliamentarian and Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal (MMA) reflects that the election is the constitutional and the propaganda of the Opposition in this regard baseless. The Minister said that Imran Khan and Qazi Hussain Ahmed earlier introduced Justice (retd) Wajihuddin Ahmed as their candidate and then tendered resignations and deceived him (Wajihuddin).
