Wajih backs joint Opp candidate

KARACHI—Presidential candidate Justice (Retd) Wajih ud Din Ahmad has said he is not aspirant for any post including presidency adding he is ready to withdraw if opposition parties field joint candidate including Makhdoom Amin Fahim.
Justice (Retd) Wajih Ud Din said this while addressing Sindh High Court Bar Association here Monday. He said he had started struggle along with the lawyers community for supremacy of law and constitution and this struggle was very long.
He went on to say it was before all of us the decision given by Supreme Court on November 28 and under what circumstances the verdict was announced.
He criticized some judges saying two judges of Supreme Court (SC) were having dinner with the then attorney general and counsel of federation Abdul Hafeez Pirzada when petitions filed against presidential reference with regard to chief justice of Pakistan was being heard in SC. These two judges against whom objections were raised were also part of the larger bench of SC which pronounced judgment in petitions against dual offices of president.
The decision on non maintainability of petitions could have taken within one hour but two weeks of the nation were wasted, he remarked. The real struggle has started following September, 28 decision of SC, he underlined. “We will go to SC against acceptance of nomination papers of president general Pervez Musharraf by the Election Commission with full preparations, he maintained.
He held the current elections were not normal but they were taking place before time. The election should have been held by November, 15 under constitution. The assemblies will complete their tenure till that time, headed. Therefore, the next assemblies can re-elect the president.
He observed lawyers were cream of civil society and they would prove the opponents could be subdued through arguments. He slammed Abdul Hafeez Pirzada and attorney general Malik Abdul Qayyum saying they did not even deserve for membership of district bar. He pointed out attorney general and Sharif ud Pirzada had gone back before pronouncement of judgment by SC in Mian Nawaz Sharif case. But they remained present in the court on September, 28. This reveals they were informed about the decision before it was announced, he added.
