Wajih backs
joint Opp candidate
Bureau Report
KARACHI—Presidential candidate Justice (Retd) Wajih ud Din Ahmad has
said he is not aspirant for any post including presidency adding he is
ready to withdraw if opposition parties field joint candidate including
Makhdoom Amin Fahim.
Justice (Retd) Wajih Ud Din said this while addressing Sindh High Court
Bar Association here Monday. He said he had started struggle along with
the lawyers community for supremacy of law and constitution and this
struggle was very long.
He went on to say it was before all of us the decision given by Supreme
Court on November 28 and under what circumstances the verdict was
announced.
He criticized some judges saying two judges of Supreme Court (SC) were
having dinner with the then attorney general and counsel of federation
Abdul Hafeez Pirzada when petitions filed against presidential reference
with regard to chief justice of Pakistan was being heard in SC. These
two judges against whom objections were raised were also part of the
larger bench of SC which pronounced judgment in petitions against dual
offices of president.
The decision on non maintainability of petitions could have taken within
one hour but two weeks of the nation were wasted, he remarked. The real
struggle has started following September, 28 decision of SC, he
underlined. “We will go to SC against acceptance of nomination papers of
president general Pervez Musharraf by the Election Commission with full
preparations, he maintained.
He held the current elections were not normal but they were taking place
before time. The election should have been held by November, 15 under
constitution. The assemblies will complete their tenure till that time,
headed. Therefore, the next assemblies can re-elect the president.
He observed lawyers were cream of civil society and they would prove the
opponents could be subdued through arguments. He slammed Abdul Hafeez
Pirzada and attorney general Malik Abdul Qayyum saying they did not even
deserve for membership of district bar. He pointed out attorney general
and Sharif ud Pirzada had gone back before pronouncement of judgment by
SC in Mian Nawaz Sharif case. But they remained present in the court on
September, 28. This reveals they were informed about the decision before
it was announced, he added.
