colludes with anti-state elements: FO
By Our Diplomatic Correspondent
ISLAMABAD—Pakistan, expressing concern over Indian involvement with
anti-state elements in the country, said Monday that the matter would be
raised at the forthcoming meeting of a joint anti-terrorism mechanism.
“We have indications of Indian involvement with anti-state elements in
Pakistan and the issue will be taken up in the forthcoming meeting of
anti-terrorism mechanism,” Foreign Office spokesperson Ms. Tasnim Aslam
told a weekly media briefing.
Replying to question, the spokesperson said Kashmir and Siachen are
internationally recognized disputed areas and it has been proved that
such disputes could not be resolved through war and the only way
progress can be achieved is dialogue and negotiation, which is being
pursued. She said any tourism activity in Siachen area by India will be
illegal as it is illegally occupied by India. She said Pakistan will
raise the issue of Siachen in the next meeting of Composite Dialogue
process with India and seek clarification on this issue.
The spokesperson said Pakistan has given workable proposals to India and
expressed the hope that the Composite Dialogue process will make further
progress. On the issue of Afghanistan, the spokesperson said Pakistan
wants stable, peaceful and prosperous Afghanistan. She said Pakistan is
also interested to send back the Afghan refugees and the Afghan
government has also agreed to it but the UNHCR is unable to mobilize the
required funds for the repatriation of the refugees.
She said Pakistan has also asked the UNHCR to pay at least dollar 100
per person to the Afghan refugees, being repatriated. She said Pakistan
has contributed dollar 500 million for this purpose but the
international community has not done much on this issue. About the
withdrawal of foreign troops from Afghanistan, she said it is the issue
of people of Afghanistan and they knew it better, adding that Pakistan
has said that foreign troops would have to withdraw.
Replying to a question, she said, Pakistan has comprehensive policy and
strategy for Waziristan and FATA and it can be changed and modified as
needed. About the incident of police violence against journalists and
lawyers outside the Election Commission on Saturday and its projection
in the world media, she said every Pakistani has the responsibility for
the image of Pakistan.
She said every one is contributing to the image of the country and added
that the incident gave a wrong image of Pakistan to the world on that
day. About the war against terrorism, she said Pakistan is a strong
partner in the war against terror but only in its national interest and
not for any benefit. She said Pakistan has been victim of terrorism,
therefore its participation in the global war against terrorism is in
its national interest.
