Speedy resolution of corporate disputes must for growth: IFC

ISLAMABAD—Law and judiciary have a very crucial role to play in the
development and evolution of a society; hence, clear understanding of
the principles of corporate governance is a must for judicial officers
to discharge their judicial functions effectively in dispute involving
corporate governance issues.
Mr. Kaiser Naseem Manager for International Finance Corporation
Pakistan’s Corporate Governance Project expressed these views a work on
‘corporate governance’ for trainee Civil Judges-cum- Judicial
Magistrates held here at the Federal Judicial Academy on Monday.
At the outset of the importance of the workshop he said that this
workshop has been organized keeping in view the recent trends in the
field of corporate governance.
“The need of the hour is that the young judicial officers should be made
aware of the international best practices in corporate governance to
decide the corporate disputes expeditiously and effectively to attract
investment in the country” he emphasized.
He said what makes a judiciary strong is a clear and accurate
understanding of its goals. If it is seen to pursue justice, the public
as well as the investors will have confidence in it therefore time to
time due orientation for jurists, judges and other allied person
regarding emerging trends and practices in corporate governance disputes
and settlements is ‘sine qua non’. Naseem also evinced interest to
conduct such workshops across the country in collaboration with the
concerned provincial High Courts for High Court judges and district
judiciary.
On the occasion Director General of the Academy Moazzam Hayat said this
workshop would provide an opportunity to the young judicial officers to
familiarize themselves with the issues of corporate governance and to
refine their skills on the topic in line with the global judiciary
practices. |
