India mulls re-deployment in Kashmir

NEW DELHI—Deepak Kapoor, the new Indian Army Chief said on Monday India would consider re-deployment of forces in occupied Kashmir, if situation was further improved. Media reports quoting him while talking to mediapersons here said “Though there is an improvement in the situation in Jammu and Kashmir and Northeast, there cannot be any curtailment of army’s role in combating terrorism.”
The General, who took over the charge from J J Singh on Sunday said the “prevailing situation in Kashmir does not warrant any withdrawal of forces.” “As and when things improve, we can take a fresh look on troop positions,” he said. The pinpointed raids on militant hideouts were paying “dividends”, he claimed.
Deepak Kapoor said his priority would be providing cutting edge tools to Indian forces to face futuristic digital wars. The new Indian Chief had commanded a northern Command of the Indian forces.—Agencies
