India mulls
re-deployment in Kashmir
NEW DELHI—Deepak Kapoor, the new Indian Army Chief said on Monday India
would consider re-deployment of forces in occupied Kashmir, if situation
was further improved. Media reports quoting him while talking to
mediapersons here said “Though there is an improvement in the situation
in Jammu and Kashmir and Northeast, there cannot be any curtailment of
army’s role in combating terrorism.”
The General, who took over the charge from J J Singh on Sunday said the
“prevailing situation in Kashmir does not warrant any withdrawal of
forces.” “As and when things improve, we can take a fresh look on troop
positions,” he said. The pinpointed raids on militant hideouts were
paying “dividends”, he claimed.
Deepak Kapoor said his priority would be providing cutting edge tools to
Indian forces to face futuristic digital wars. The new Indian Chief had
