Presidential candidates’ list finalised

ISLAMABAD—The Election Commission of Pakistan has issued the final list of five candidates for the Presidential Election. According to the Election Commission list, the contenders for the election are President Pervez Musharraf, Makhdoom Amin Fahim, Retired Justice Wajhiuddin Ahmad, Chairman Senate Mohammadmian Soomro and Faryal Talpur.
Forty three candidates had filed seventy one nomination papers. Of which, the Election Commission rejected the papers of thirty seven candidates during scrutiny on technical grounds. Speaker National Assembly Chaudhary Amir Hussein was the only candidate who withdrew his nomination papers on Monday.
Polling to elect the President will be held on Saturday from ten in the morning to three in the afternoon.
The Chief Election Commissioner as Returning Officer will preside the polling process at the Parliament House Islamabad, while the Chief Justices of the four provinces as Presiding Officers will conduct the polling at provincial Assembly buildings in Lahore, Karachi, Peshawar and Quetta.
