Wajih says Uniform verdict bears no merit

KARACHI—Presidential candidate of Lawyers’ fraternity Justice Retd Wajihuddin has described the recent verdict of the Apex Court regarding the petitions challenging dual offices of the President Musharraf biased here on Sunday. While addressing a press conference at Karachi Press Club, he said decision of the court about the uniform of Musharraf is not satisfactory one as some bench judges were not possessing credibility.
He visited press club Karachi to show his solidarity with journalist community following the untoward incident occurred on Constitutional Avenue in Islamabad in which police used indiscriminate force against peaceful protesters. It is, he says, state terrorism and this particular incident has bent the head of every Pakistani. While commending the role of media, he contended 25 journalists lost their lives over last 8 years, which is unparalleled sacrifice in our history.
While commenting on the recent decision taken by the larger bench of the Supreme Court, he asserted we are waiting for the details of the verdict for evaluation and then we will file our petitions for acquiring stay over the presidential elections on Monday (today). Incase, our stay petition rejected then we will place another plea after the dissolution of the Frontier assembly before the court’, he added.
Earlier, Presidential candidate Justice (Retd) Wajihuddin Ahmed Thursday said that he was contesting election against President General Pervez Musharraf in great national interest. Justice Wajihuddin demanded direct presidential election and said, “Lawyers can win if direct presidential elections are held in the country.”
Meanwhile, talking to media in front of the Election Commission, he said, under the constitution, present assemblies cannot elect the new president.
