Ramzan-ul-Mubarak may commence from 14th
ISLAMABAD—The holy month of Ramzan-ul-Mubarak will commence in Pakistan
from September 14, on Friday subject to confirmation of Central
Ruet-e-Hilal Committee.
Pakistan Meteorological Department has said that astronomical
calculations suggest that there is hardly a chance of sighting new moon
of Ramzan-ul-Mubarak in the evening of September 12, throughout the
country. The spokesman, while elaborating the technical aspects said the
required threshold values of the astronomical parameters are essential
for sighting the new moon of Ramzan-ul-Mubarak.
The age of the new moon should be more than 31 hours at the time of
twilight for sighting new moon of Ramzan whereas this time it is less
than 26 hours in most parts of the country, he added. He said the
minimum duration for the new moon after Sunset should be more than 41
minutes whereas at this occasion, it is less than 22 minutes all over
the country. He added that the position of new moon and its angles at
the time of moon set is also very low and does not meet the prescribed
criteria. As such, he said, conditions for the sighting the new moon of
Ramzan-ul-Mubarak on September 12, are not completely consonant with all
parameters. Therefore, “Inshallah 1st day of fasting would start from
September 14, on Friday”, the Spokesman said. —APPs |
