Fazal fears martial law

RAHIMYAR KHAN—MMA’s Central Secretary General and opposition leader in National Assembly Maulana Fazal-ur-Rehman has said on Thursday that MMA would never accept President Musharraf in or without uniform.
Talking to private TV channel, he said that the imposition of emergency or martial law cannot be ruled out in the country. He said that former Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif should return to Pakistan and we would welcome him. He continued that district governments were established after the regime of Peoples Party that is why Benazir is demanding to dissolve them. Secretary General MMA, Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman said that circumstances are pushing the country towards martial law rapidly.
He expressed these views in a press conference here at the residence of local leader of Jamiat-e-Ulema-e-Islam Nasir Khan Niazi on Thursday. While denying any kind of dialogue with government at any level he said that dialogues are always held on some issue and presently there is no issue accept uniform and presidential election. As MMA is strongly opposed the Presidential election therefore, there is no way to hold dialogue with President General Pervez Musharraf, he said.
While refereeing to the 200 missing security personnel in South Waziristan he said that masses should make their own conclusions weather they were really abducted by militants or they deserted voluntarily. While talking about All Parties Democratic Movement (APDM) he said that MMA alliance with APDM is impossible at any level, however, there is some room for seat adjustments with APDM.
Moreover, he said that after the independence of judiciary, the feelings of insecurity have vanished among the masses. While talking about amendments about Third term PM he preferred to remain neutral to it and said that it all depended on the motives of the person, who wants to initiate such a course of action.
He further said that only free, fair and transparent election could ensure the integrity and solidarity of Pakistan. Maulana Matih-ur-Rehman Darkhawasti, Mian Mazhar Nisar, Maulana Muhammad Yousaf, Abdul Manan Bhatti, Usman Khan Abbasi, Allama Abdul Rauf Rabbani, Qari Zafar Iqbal and Noman Ludhianvi were also present on the occasion.—Agencies
