Ruling MP joins PML-N
Staff Report

ISLAMABAD—A Pakistan Muslim League member of the National Assembly Muhammad Akhtar Khan Kanju on Thursday joined the PML-N. He announced the switch-over at a mews conference here at the PML-N camp office in the presence of PML-N Acting President Javed Hashmi.
Kanju said his decision to join PML-N was unconditional and he fully endorsed the PML-N stand for restoration of genuine democracy in the country. PML-N Secretary General Iqbal Zafar Jhagra, Secretary Information Ahsan Iqbal and the party’s deputy parliamentary leader Ch. Nisar Ali Khan were also present on the occasion. “I refused to support President Pervez Musharraf’s planned re-election in uniform and decided to join PML-N for restoration of democracy,” said Kanjur, who was elected to the lower house of the parliament from Lodhran in Punjab in 2002 on PML ticket.
Before embracing PML he had been with PML-N and served as Chairman District Council Lodhran during the two governments of the party. Earlier, Javed Hashmi said Nawaz Sharif and Shahbaz Sharif would arrive at the Islamabad airport on September 10. He said the Sharif brothers would be welcomed from the platform of the All Parties Democratic Movement (APDM).
