ITP to close Kashmir Highway for heavy traffic

ISLAMABAD—Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) is considering to close Kashmir Highway for Heavy Transport Vehicles and to shift this traffic on IJ Principal road after improvement ininfrastructure.
It was stated by the Senior Superintendent of Police (Traffic) Zubair Hashmi while talking to newsman.
He said,” I have pointed out some improvements like closing of few U-turns, over-head bridge on Double Road, widening of roads. CDA Traffic Engineering Department would be requested to consider our proposal for smooth flow of traffic”.
The SSP said CDA would also be approached to shift some bus stands out of city so that HTVs can not enter into the city.
Regarding number plates of vehicles, he said a campaign would initially be launched, urging the people for legible number plates and with same outlook.
To a question, he said the refresher courses are being arranged for the cops, inculcating them to demonstrate polite attitude with citizens.
He said health insurance and life insurance of cops and their family members are being done to keep the morale of the force `high’.
A dispensary is being opened at office of ITP for providing medical cover to the cops and their families.
Regarding action against one-wheelers, he said more than 1043 one-wheelers and speedsters were fined during the last month and fine tickets amounting Rs. 525,000 were issued to violators.
He said four help units would be set up in each zone for the assistance of commuters while necessary equipment is being purchased for removing the debris and damaged vehicles from the roads.
