EDO constitutes inspection committee

ISLAMABAD—Minister for Science and Technology Chaudhry Nouraiz Shakoor Khan Thursday took strong notice of collapse of the Northern Bypass in Karachi and supported detailed investigation into the incident.
Presiding the meeting of Board of Directors of Pakistan Standard Quality Control Authority (PSQCA), he said that the investigation should focus on quality of cement, steal and other materials used in the construction of the Bypass. The Minister said layout plan always has a key role butwithout use of standardized construction material no structure can be built in line with the international standards. Nouraiz said the investigation will reveal the realcauses of this tragic collapse, adding the collapse of Margalla Towers in Islamabad during an earthquake was due to use of substandard construction material. He said he has received complaints about construction work in some other projects. Nouraiz said the manufacturing merchandise has direct bearing on the safety and health of the people and it needs to be standardized to ensure maximum consumer protection.
He said that, “We can raise our image by ensuringstandardization of products and their sales in the international markets.” The Minister said that there will be no exception or compromise on quality in face of globalization if we have to increase our share at the international level. He said all the products must be manufactured in line with the standards set by FSQCA.
