ISLAMABAD—National Assembly Standing Committee on Finance has expressed annoyance over the writing off loans, as Rs. 2 billion had been written off by National Bank of Pakistan and Zarai Traqiati Bank Limited.
The committee directed authorities concerned to ensure recovery of amount from defaulters.
Chairman Chaudhry Anwar Ali Cheema chaired the committee meeting held in the Parliament House on Monday in which list carrying name of 213 people whose loan wroth Rs. 1.19 were write off during 2003 to 2006 by NBP were presented.
During the meeting, the administration of ZTBL has failed to present list of defaulters whose loans worth Rs. 800 million were written off in the aforementioned period. In this respect, the committee took strict notice and directed ZTBL administration to table list in its next meeting.

They made it clear they will not participate in the upcoming meeting of the committee if loans were not recovered from defaulters because they (defaulters) are industrials and capitalists.
The committee further directed that State Bank of Pakistan may adopt a transparent policy regarding write off loans in order to discourage such cases in future.
The committee also directed SBP to submit a complete statement of write off loans (Bifurcating the names of politicians, industrialists and others) from 1999 to onward in nits next meeting.
Some members strongly protested over the discriminatory attitude of Banks towards the Politicians as the Bank don’t consider the parliamentarians for the facilities of credit cards, leasing and loans.
The committee was informed that the loan of Koh-e-Nor mills worth Rs. 2 billion has been recovered by selling industry land while interest on loan has been write off.
