CM unveils Rs.4b package for teachers

LAHORE—Punjab Chief Minister, Ch. Pervaiz Elahi has announced a package of Rs. four billion for teachers which will be implemented immediately. Allowances of science and English teachers, headmasters, teachers of high and higher secondary schools and primary schools have been increased under this package.
An amount of Rs. 450 will be provided as conveyance allowance to all teachers of the province on which government will have to bear the expenses of Rs. 1.23 billion. He also announced an additional increment to all teachers of the province on which Rs. 50 crore will be spent. Chief Minister said that three lakh fifty thousand teachers will be benefited from this historical package for teachers announced by the Pakistan Muslim League government.
He said that package of incentives for class four employees will soon be announced. He was addressing Punjab Teachers Convention at Alhamra here on Sunday. Provincial Education Minister, Mian Imran Masood, Patron-in-Chief Mothida Mahaz Teachers, Raja Zafir Ahmad Satti and General Secretary, Joint Action Committee, Jan Alam addressed the convention.
Chief Secretary Punjab, Salman Siddique, District Nazim Lahore, Mian Amer Mehmood, Secretary Education, Khalid Akhlaq Gilani, Secretary Schools, Zahid Saeed and other senior officials were present on this occasion. Chief Minister Punjab, Ch. Pervaiz Elahi said that government has accepted all demands by announcing a package of incentives for teachers. He said that substantial increase will be made in the monthly remuneration of teachers under this package.
Their problems would be solved. They would be promoted to next grades and they will get promotion up to grade-20 like officers of the other departments, he added. He said that the monthly allowance of headmaster of primary school has been increased from Rs. 20 to 250, headmaster of middle school from Rs. 30 to 350, headmaster of high school from Rs. 50 to 600 and head of higher secondary school from Rs. 350 to Rs. 750 on which government will bear expenses of Rs. 18.40 crore annually.
He said that those primary and elementary teachers who will pass B.A. examination will be given allowance of Rs. 400 per month, on MA Rs. 600 per month and on M. Phil Rs. 1200 per month. He said that monthly allowance of Rs. 1200 will be given to those headmasters, senior headmasters, principals, subject specialists and senior subject specialists passing M.Phil.
He said that earlier, a teacher who was recruited in grade 7, had been retired in the same grade after 40 years but due to the decision of the present government, 50,000 teachers working at primary level will be promoted to greade-9, 22,500 teachers to grade-11 and 1500 teachers to grade-12.
He said that the teachers will be promoted to grade-12 without increasing their educational qualification under the four tiers system of promotion of primary teachers. He said that under new package, 22,500 teachers working in middle schools in grade-9 will be promoted to grade-12, 10,000 to grade-14 and 660 to grade-15 and this promotion will be given without the condition of increasing qualification.
Due to increase of educational qualification they can get further promotion, he added. He said that the condition of M.A, M.Sc, has been abolished for getting promotion up to grade-18 under which a high school teacher who reaches from grade-16 to 17 in 25 years will reach to grade-18 in less time without increasing his educational qualification.
He said that due to this decision of the government, 8000 teachers will be promoted from grade 16 to 17 whereas 3500 teachers from grade 17 to 18 and the teachers fulfilling the condition of education will be promoted up to grade-20.
Ch. Pervaiz Elahi said that our teachers training programme is continuing successfully and one lakh eighty thousand teachers have completed their training so far under this programme. He said that teachers are being imparted training in the shape of cluster and a cluster has been established at every 16 km. He said that besides salaries an additional allowance of Rs. 4000 will be given to 4000 master trainers working at 2000 clusters in the province.
