Petroleum dealers call off strike

ISLAMABAD—The Pakistan Petroleum Dealers Association has deferred their strike for one month after discussions with the officials of the ministry of petroleum here on Saturday.
President of the Association, Abdul Sami Khan told newsmen in Islamabad that they have deferred the strike only in the interest of consumers. He further said that the dealers could not earn the profit at the rate of five per cent due to various taxes and it has been demanded to maintain the rate of profit at five per cent for dealers under an agreement with the ministry of petroleum in 1994.
Abdul Sami Khan said that dealers are getting the profit of one rupee one paisa per litre and in this connection, the government’s figures of Re 1.35 per litre is not correct. Secretary Petroleum Farrukh Qayyum told Geo News that after the meeting with the oil marketing companies, demands of dealers would be sent through a summary to the cabinet. He said that a model formula summary in this connection would be prepared within a month.—Online
