Nawaz rules out seeking pardon

London—Mr. Nawaz Sharif, Quaid, PML-N said that PML-N believes that only rule of law through restoration of undiluted democracy can bring stability and progress in Pakistan and we will come into power not on the clutches of outsiders but with the support of our people.
Addressing a meeting of senior party leaders in the party’s international secretariat said Nawaz Sharif said, “ PML-N believes that only rule of law through restoration of undiluted democracy can bring stability and progress in Pakistan. The fate of Pakistani can’t be decided through deals of a few individuals, the nation will not allow anyone to hijack its future for personal motives. PML-N doesn’t seek any kind of indemnity therefore those people who want indemnity should only negotiate for themselves. We believe that there should be independent judiciary, transparent accountability, and fair process of law in the country so that all politically motivated cases can be disposed off on merit. There are no pending cases of corruption involving two PML-N governments and if false cases are fabricated against us then we shall defend the same in court of law instead of seeking pardon or indemnity because our hands are clean”.
He said, “It is unfortunate that a few individuals are trying to decide the destiny of nation according to what suits their political interests. Our struggle is not to seek power but to change the present system which seeks to turn 160 million people powerless and mere spectators in the power game. Now the nation is awake and it will not allow anyone to violate the constitution. The laws can’t be changed to suit the interests of one person.
Pakistan is a democratic state in which every Pakistani counts. Insha Allah our return will take our struggle into decisive phase and Pakistan will soon have fair and free elections under a neutral caretaker government. General Musharraf has become center of all problems and is pushing the country into a blind alley.”
He said, “ We will come into power not on the clutches of outsiders but with the support of our people. Pakistan’s sovereignty has been traded for personal power. Pakistan will have good friendly relations with all countries but with self-respect and dignity. Pakistani nation has great potential, which is being lost because we have not given the people of our country control of their destiny. PML-N will make Pakistan a modern progressive state through restoration of democracy and establishing rule of law.”
Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif has said if any cases related to the two PML-N governments were broughtup he would defend in court, according to the party. The party said Nawaz Sharif made the remarks while chairing ameeting of PML-N senior leaders in London on Saturday.
The former prime minister asserted that there were no pending cases of corruption against him and his brother Shahbaz.
“If any cases are fabricated we shall defend in court instead of seeking pardon or indemnity because our hands are clean,” the party quoted him as saying.
He said his party stands for making Pakistan a modern progressive state through restoration of democracy and establishment of rule of law.
The former prime minister, who has announced he would return to Pakistan on September 10 with Shahbaz, underlined the need for free, fair and transparent general election under a neutral caretaker government.
Nawaz Sharif said the fate of the country could not be decided through any deals and vowed that the nation would not allow anyone to “hijack the future of the country for self interest.”
“Now the nation is awake and it will not allow anyone to violate the constitution”, he said.
He said the Pakistani nation has great potential which is being lost because “we have not given the people of our country control of their destiny.”
