decision of the former PrimeMinister Nawaz Sharif to return to Pakistan
on September 10, she said she welcomes his decision.” Pakistan is his
country and he has been allowed to return home by the Supreme Court,”
she added.
Chairperson, Pakistan People’s Party Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto called on
the British Foreign Secretary David Miliband at the Foreign and
Commonwealth office here on Friday and their discussion centred on the
political situation in Pakistan. “They discussed the political situation
in Pakistan including the forthcoming presidential election as well as
the national elections during their 45 minutes meeting,” said an FCO
official.
Ms.Bhutto on her part apprised the Foreign Secretary about her
discussion with the Pakistan Governmentinterlocutors on the possible
power sharing formula. Former Prime Minister and Chairperson of PPPP
Benazir Bhutto has strongly condemned over the publication of a
derogatory cartoon in a Swedish newspaper that is offensive to the
sensibilities of Muslims and emphasized the need for respecting the
faith and sensibilities of all religions and faiths.
The cartoon was published in a Swedish daily Nerikes Allehanda on August
19 after art galleries in Sweden declined to display it. In a statement
issued here on Friday the former Prime Minister said that it was most
irresponsible and deplorable that some publications in the west
published cartoons and caricatures blatantly disregarding the religious
sentiments of the Muslims.
Such thoughtlessness and absence of sensitivity to the Muslims is in
sharp contrast to the respect normally shown to followers of other
religions and groups, Benazir Bhutto said.
“If the tendency was not curbed it could ignite protests in Muslim
countries and also among Europe’s Muslim population and undermine
religious harmony and tolerance that is needed most by the world today”. |
