Wave of suicide attacks continues in NWFP
26 killed in D I Khan police lines, 13 security personnel blown in Swat

DERA ISMAIL KHAN—Atleast twenty-six people, including seven police personnel were killed and scores of others sustained serious injuries when a suicide bomber blew himself up inside the ground of police lines on Sunday.
The attack was made, when the suicide bomber blew himself up with big bang that was heard distant areas. The deceased are: Head Constable Habib-ur-Rehman, Constable Munir Ahmed, Constable Muhammad Safdar, Muhammad Jamsheed, Javed, ASI Shah Jehan, candidates appeared for examination: Khuda Bux, Jamil, Muhammad Arif, Muhammad Rafique, Zameer Shah, Sultan, Muhammad Atlas, Abdul Aziz, Muhammad Tousaeef, Ata-ur-Rehman, Muhammad Azam, Abdul Karim, Muhammad Imran, Fida Hussain and Tanvir while others could not be ascertained.
Sources of District Headquarter DI Khan informed that at least seventeen dead bodies and thirty five injured had been taken to hospital. DPO Gul Afzal Afridi feared that casualties might increase owing to intensity of the blast as twelve dead bodies had been identified. Emergency has been declared in hospitals, he added. “Head and some limbs of suicide attacker found in the premises of the ground and police has taken them into custody for investigation,” he maintained.
Fear and panic has prevailed among inhabitants of the area following the suicide attack. Earlier, on Friday, police had recovered a vehicle full of explosive material and arrested five suspected in this regard whereas two suspects managed to escape from the site. However, during investigation, they unveiled that explosive material would be utilized for attacks in DI Khan. Thirteen security personnel were among17 people killed and thirty three injured when their convoy was attacked by miscreants in Matta area of Swat on Sunday.
Official sources said that the martyred include ten security personnel and three policemen. The injured include 26 security personnel, three policemen and four civilians. Director General ISPR has said 11 security men and three civilians were killed in the incident. In the attack, a landmine exploded and two cars packed with explosives ploughed into a troops convoy, said Director General ISPR Major General Waheed Arshad. Blue colour Suzuki vans were used in the attack that martyred 12 security men and three civilians.
Three vehicles of the security forces were damaged and 39 security men were wounded including 28 with serious injuries. The wounded persons have been transferred to Peshawar, Mardan hospitals and CMH Rawalpindi. According to sources six houses were also destroyed in the incident and residents were killed. People have taken out body of a girl from wreckage of a house in Matta, while three persons were killed when rooftop of a house collapsed near a petrol station.
The firing episode by unidentified gunmen still underway, while security forces helicopters hovering over the area. After the incident Matta area has been sealed. All roads leading to Matta have been closed at Kanju point. A suicide bomber had killed 24 people and wounded 29 more the previous day in Miranshah area. The convoy was on its way to Matta from Saidu Sharif when three explosive devices planted by miscreants went off. The injured security personnel have been shifted to CMH Peshawar and Rawalpindi through helicopter.
Suicide attackers struck a police headquarters and a military convoy on Sunday in Pakistan’s northwest, killing as many as 38 people in an intensifying anti-government campaign in an area long known as a haven for the Taliban and al-Qaida.
