Need to build new water reservoirs: Nasir Khan

ISLAMABAD—Nasir Khan President Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) has said that construction of new water reservoirs are extremely essential to avoid energy crisis.
In a statement issued here on Friday, the Chairman ICCI further said that there was heavy snowfall in last winter but due to lack of water reservoirs a huge quantity of water has wasted as a result of snow melting on the mountains.
He said that this water could be utilized for producing electricity and crops irrigation. He expressed sorrow, on the loss of property of poor people due to flood. He said that a large number of people have, become homeless, because of poor water management.
Nasir Khan said that for industrial growth and sustainable economic development, cost of doing business should be reduced with the availability of more energy resources, otherwise, in future Pakistan would have to face serious economic challenges.
The Chairman ICCI expressed his concern on the rising cost of energy, electricity, gas and petroleum, which are the main fuels of industries.
He said that with WTO and globalization we have to face a number of challenges therefore it is important to find new energy resources to compete in the world market.
He stressed that policy makers should work more seriously for the building of new dams and reservoirs to store water.
He said that it should not be made as a political issue and a long term planning should be developed to meet the future energy requirements to avoid energy crises.
Electricity is one of the major factors, in price determination of a product and if necessary measures are not taken, the President’s exports would suffer a great deal with high cost of energy, he remarked.
