SSGC continues to supply gas to all power plants
By Asim Hussain
ISLAMABAD—Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) is maintaining uninterrupted
gas supply to all its major industrial customers including power plants
and none of the power plant in its franchise area was forced to shut
down due to shortage of gas, a Spokesman for the company here on Friday.
Responding to reports claiming shortage of gas supply to power plants,
the SSGC spokesperson clarified that SSGC was supplying gas to WAPDA
according to the gas sales agreement. The spokesperson however said, in
order to put the record straight, “it shall be noted that gas supplies
to all power plants are under a specific contract based upon a certain
agreed quota of supply for every plant.”
“In summers SSGC is in a position to offer extra supply which is in
excess of the respective quotas on a basis of ‘as and when available’.
In winter season extra gas is not available after the winter load
adjustment,” he said.
“The industrial customers are required to switch over to alternate
fuelas per agreement between SSGC and WAPDA, but they probably do not
switch over due to high costs, thus creating gas shortage scenario” SSGC
spokesperson said.
Gas Sales agreement with KESC is under final stage; therefore, volumesto
KESC have been reduced as compared to summer, to offset the winterload.
Gas supply to all other bulk customers has also been reduced to minimum
allowable limits to manage winter demands.
However, the spokesperson said, SSGC was providing 76 million cubic feet
gas per day (mmcfd) to Jamshoro and Kotri power plants, which is more
than the agreed volume of 72 mmcfd.
SSGC also claimed that during the summer months both these power plants
were provided 113 mmcfd gas. It is further clarified that no curtailment
has been planned for both the power plants beyond the agreed volumes.
“We would like to reaffirm through this statement that SSGC
trulybelieves in serving its broad band of customers, comprising of
domestic, commercial and industrial by honoring all its commitments for
the quantum of gas as per agreements in its franchise areas of Sindh and
Balochistan”, the spokesperson said. |
