Musharraf, Shaukat PML’s candidates: Tariq

ISLAMABAD—Minister of state for Information, Senator Tariq Azeem Chaudhry said Wednesday that the general elections will be held on January 15, 2008 and Shaukat Aziz would be the PML-Q candidate for the prime minister slot. Talking to newsmen here, he said that the president General Pervez Musharraf would be re-elected constitutionally for the second term during September 15 to October 15, 2007. The present assemblies would act as the electoral for the election of the president, he added.
Exactly three month after the re-election of the president the general elections will be held on January 15, he maintained. To a question, he said that the meeting between the president PML-Q Chaudhry Pervez Elahi and the former prime minister Benazir Bhutto was sheerly ‘by chance’. “Neither the political situation of the country came under discussion between them nor their inter-action would cast any affects on the political situation of the country. Replying to a question about the afghan refugees, he said that Pakistan since 1979 has been contributed well in giving shelter to three million Afghan nationals and now the time is ripe to shift these camps from the Pakistanis side into Afghan territory.—Agencies
