NVM to launch
awareness campaign on Population issues: Saif
By Ali Imran
ISLAMABAD—The National Voluntary Movement (NVM) would launch a massive
awareness campaign on Population issues in collaboration with the
Ministry of Population Welfare.
This was revealed by Deputy Chairman NVM Barrister Dr. Muhammad Ali Saif
here in an exclusive talk with the APP.
He said the population issue was a major problem faced by the nation and
it needed prompt attention. “Population in Pakistan is growing
enormously and around 3 million people are added to our population every
year. This is a huge burden on our economy and result into destitution,
starvation and premature deaths of children,” said Barrister Saif adding
that this was a national issue which needed collective efforts.
“In first phase of the campaign, the NVM would launch a mass awareness
drive which would be followed by field work by trained volunteers,” he
said and added that the NVM volunteers would take the masses into
confidence regarding the population menace.
Population menace breeds poverty, unemployment, malnutrition, and
illiteracy. Population welfare aims at better facilities of life for the
human beings. This is meant to ensure better education, grooming and
qualities of life for the community which is a great service to the
mankind,” said the young Barrister.
He said the NVM was imparting training to the young volunteers enabling
them to be productive citizens and serve the country in an amicable
manner.
Barrister Saif further said the trained volunteers of the NVM are not
only contributing in different spheres of life but also they can
properly handle emergency situations.
“The NVM has also launched special courses for women volunteers so as
they could contribute in helping hands to the women and children of
their own families in all sorts of calamity situations,” said the NVM
Deputy Chairman. Dr. Saif further said the government was ensuring women
empowerment and all aspects were being addressed in this regard. “The
government, under the visionary leadership President Pervez Musharraf
and Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz, was making sure that women and other
weaker segments of the society are empowered economically, socially,
legally and politically,” said the deputy chairman NVM, in future, would
collaborate with the Ministry of Women Development and Youth Affairs to
address the gender issues.
