Mass grave found

KABUL—A mass grave was discovered in Afghanistan’s capital of Kabul, and authorities believed the bodies be of those people killed during the communist era from 1979 to 1992. The grave was found while the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) started work on construction of military training center in the Puligan area on the outskirts of Kabul. Mohammad Halim Tanvir, a senior official of the Ministry for Culture and Youth Affairs said that some 50,000 people were killed in that area duringthe communist regime from the time of Hafeezullah Amin to the last communist ruler, Dr. Najeebullah. Najeeb was separated from power as a result of the victory of mujahideen in 1992 and was incarcerated at a U.N. compound. Later, when the Taliban occupied the central capital of Kabul, they shot him dead and his body was hanged at a square in Kabul.—Agencies
