Pakistan, competitive place for domestic and global market: Salman

ISLAMABAD—Advisor to PM on Finance Salman Shah Friday said Pakistan would soon become very competitive country not only for its domestic market but also for global markets as there is consistency of policies,macro economic stability and provided, “we succeed in establishing competitive market economy.”
Talking to newsmen he said,by providing opportunities for investment and maintaining political stability in the country there was nothing which can stop us from making economic development. He said,the demographic picture of Pakistan is very positive for the development of Pakistan as 160 million people are very young. The growth of pakistan can be boosted in next 50 years provided the other factors are also there like macro economic stability,infrastructure and education can help to sustain the economic stability. There are many opportunities for private sector and forinvestment in Pakistan and policies of government are people friendly so to bring prosperity in the country,he added.
Salman Shah said, government is determined to upgradeeducation sector in the country and funding for HEC for ten years is Rs. 1100 billion which is a substantial jump as compared towhat we are spending right now and there is also increase in spending on secondary schools and colleges. He said, “We have to generate our resources and revenues and are trying to improve tax to GDP ratio so the additional resources must be spent on education and health”.
Salman Shah said that they wanted to provide opportunities to the youth so to motivate them to invest in education and other sectors,adding more they are trained in labor force more theircompetitiveness would be in global market. “So by this we can not only capture global market but in domestic market we could have large share”,he added.
He said,Pakistan Reform Program is more advanced as compared to other similar countries and World Bank last year has included Pakistan in top ten reforming countries.
“We are determined to sustain the economic growth so toaddress the challenges of poverty and unemployment in a better way”,he added.
