ISLAMABAD—Interior Minister Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao Friday advised the Afghan authorities to stop blaming Pakistan for unrest in their country or provide solid proof if they had any to substantiate allegations.
Talking to media here after inaugurating computerization of vehicle registration project, he reiterated that a stable Afghanistan is in vital interest of Islamabad and the region as a whole. “We are doing our best for stability and peace in Afghanistan and thegovernment is contributing a lot towards rehabilitation and reconstruction in the neighbouring country,” Sherpao said.
To a question the Minister said Pakistan had avoided indulging in accusations as Islamabad “wants to have good relations with Kabul.” Replying to a question about holding of anti-government rallies by political elements, Sherpao said no one would be allowed disturb peace and order in the country.
He said such protests would achieve nothing as people understand the politics of the opposition parties and know that they do not have any agenda to put before the nation. Earlier addressing the inaugural ceremony of the project he said that the computerized vehicle registration would provide fool-proof security system and help eliminate fake registration of motor vehicles.
As part of government efforts to computerize all departments in the capital work is under way to computerize the records of revenue, police and ICT administration. The government is working to install security cameras in the capital to make it more secure for its residents, Sherpao said. Sherpao said the government is taking keen interest to further improve the infrastructure of the capital so that it could meet the future requirements.
He said the government has allocated record amount of rupees 1.2 billion for uplift of rural areas of Islamabad. The Minister directed the ICT administration to have strict check onthe prices of items of daily use particularly edible items on the eve of Eid-ul- Azha. Earlier, Chief Commissioner ICT Administration Khalid Pervaz in his inaugural address said that the Excise and Taxation Department has so far registered 250,000 vehicles since its inception in July 1980.
He said at present the department was registering 200 vehicles daily, while under the project “we have computerized the record of 110,000 vehicles.” Under the Rs. 23.742 million project the Excise and Taxation Department of Islamabad Capital Territory Administration would maintain a database of motor vehicles to be registered with the department which would be available with it and can be produced to any department on request.
The department would also issue fool-proof registration book under the project which could not be tampered with, said the Chief Commissioner. He said the project was initiated in July 2004 but due to technical reasons and restrictions it was stopped. Later, in January 2006 it wasrestarted and so far 12.2 million has been spent on it.
