Effective billing system vital for maintaining future profitability: PTA

ISLAMABAD—Chairman Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), Maj Gen (Retd)
Shahzada Alam Malik Friday said effective billing system has become an
important part of recovering and maintaining future profitability for
the sector players in a rapidly emerging competitive telecom market.
Addressing a concluding ceremony of a four-day training workshop on
Effective Billing in Telecom, organised by ICIL in collaboration PTA, he
said this would go a long way in the capacity building of the telecom
professionals associated with this particular commercial facet of the
sector. Representatives from various telecom bodies, major fixed line
and cellular mobile operators and the telecom regulator attended the
workshop.
Chairman PTA said while the telecom operators continue to make huge
investments in delivering value-added services and new technologies to
their respective consumers, it is inevitable to move towards the most up
to date, end to end billing paradigm that not only focuses on management
,finance, marketing but also supports the best customer relation
practices.
The Chairman was appreciative of the fact that during the course of the
four day workshop, various telecom stakeholders represented by their
representatives would take along with them the additional know how and
latest techniques to make a difference in the telecom businesses besides
looking after the interests of the consumers.
He assured PTA’s full commitment towards fair play, healthy competition
and provision of a conducive environment where every player gets its due
reward. “All of this coupled with safeguarding the rights of the
consumers have been the priority of the regulator and this vision has
brought so much good for the telecom sector of Pakistan today,” he said.
In his welcome address, Managing Director ICIL, Babar Mufti said ICIL
provides open enrolment and in-house training on risk management,
compliance and technology. He said ICIL’s forthcoming courses for
telecom sector include Fraud Management, Revenue Management, Network
Management and Introduction to Wimax. Other courses to be held during
the first quarter of 2007 are Information Security, Business Impact
Analysis and Risk Assessment, IS Audit and Call Centre
