Masses to reject extremist forces in next polls: Rao

ISLAMABAD—Senior Federal Minister and Minister for Defence, Rao Sikandar Iqbal has said that people will reject extremist and obscurantist elements in the forthcoming general election as these forces have no agenda and pushing the country into backwardness.
Patriotic and enlightened citizens of the country could no longer be misled by these elements which had no agenda for the development of the country and were bent upon creating impediments in the way of social and economic development, he stated this while talking to newsmen here on Friday.
The Minister urged to strengthen the hand of President Gen Pervez Musharraf and support his policies who was committed to make a stronger and economically vibrant Pakistan.
Answer to a query, Rao Sikandar Iqbal added that the country under the leadership of President General Musharraf was fast moving on the way to economic and social development.
Huge amount and resources were being spent on the improvement of infrastructure, agriculture, education and health sectors so as to ensure country’s progress and prosperity, he added.
He stated that the government was endeavouring to modernize and well equip the armed forces with an object to face the existing and future challenges and make the national security and defence of the motherland impregnable.
Commenting on the construction of Kalabagh and other big dams, the Minister observed that the construction of the Mega dams was extremely essential for the survival of the country as these would bring economic and agriculture revolution in the country and would change the destiny of the succeeding generation.
