Partial strike hits Karachi

KARACHI—Partial strike was observed in Karachi metropolis Friday on a call given by Majlis Tahaffuz-e-Hudoodullah- anconglomeration of religious parties and organizations.
Public transport on the roads remained thin and shops were closed. The University of Karachi (KU) has announced to hold examinations according to the schedule. Police thwarted a bid by a mob to set alight a vehicle at Allama Shabbir Usmani Road in Gulshan-e-Iqbal. Angry mob burnt tyres at Baldia Town 5 ˝ , while protesters blocked Mehran Highway at Quaidabad. In Cattle Colony protesters hurled stones at policemen. The police fired teargas shells and dispersed the mob. The government authorities had assured protection to transporters during the strike in the metropolis, still fewer public transport vehicles were seen at the city’s roads. However W-11 route mini buses were running on the roads. The University of Karachi (KU) has announced to hold examinations according to the schedule.
