Iran's right to peaceful nuke energy
TEHRAN—Foreign Minister Khurshid M. Kasuri, who is on a two-day official
visit to Iran, held the second round of formal talks with his Iranian
counterpart, Manouchehr Mottaki on Thursday.
During the talks the two sides discussed the situation in Iraq, Lebanon
and Palestine. They underlined their support for the territorial
integrity of Iraq, highlighting that greater accommodation among
different political groups and factions could prepare the ground for the
withdrawal of foreign forces.
Besides formal talks with his Iranian counterpart, the Foreign Minister
held parleys with a number of senior Iranian officials including the
Chief Nuclear Negotiator and Secretary Supreme National Security
Council, Dr. Ali Larijani, Ali Akbar Aghaee, Chairman Iran-Pakistan
Parliamentary Friendship Group (IPPFG), Alaeddin Boroujerdi, Chairman
Majlis National Security & Foreign Policy Committee and Dr. Kamal
Kharrazi, Chairman Foreign Policy Advisory Council.
During the meetings, matters pertaining to bilateral relations as well
as regional and international issues of common concern were discussed.
In his meeting with Dr. Larijani, the Foreign Minister reiterated
Pakistan’s position on Iran’s nuclear issue, stating that Pakistan
supported Iran’s right to the nuclear energy for peaceful purposes, was
against the use of coercive measure against Iran and was in favour of a
negotiated settlement of this issue.
Appreciating Pakistan’s role with regard to Iran’s nuclear issue, Dr.
Larijani apprised the Foreign Minister of the status of Iran’s
negotiations with the group of P5+1 as well as other stakeholders.
Welcoming Foreign Minister Kasuri, the Secretary Supreme National
Security Council said that Pakistan and Iran enjoy close brotherly
relations and the visit of Foreign Minister Kasuri would further promote
these relations.
He expressed satisfaction at the frequent high- level interaction
between the two countries and said that it provided an opportunity to
exchange views on various regional and international issues of mutual
concern. In his meeting with the Head of Foreign Policy Advisory
Council, Dr. Kamal Kharrazi, Foreign Minister Kasuri highlighted the
deep-rooted relations between Iran and Pakistan, and underscored the
need of vesting these relations with a greater commercial and economic
content.
The Foreign Minister underlined Pakistan’s keen interest and firm
commitment to the finalization of the IPI gas pipeline project. In the
meeting with Alaeddin Boroujerdi, Chairman Majlis National Security and
Foreign Policy Committee as well as with Aghaee, Chairman Pakistan -
Iran Parliamentary Friendship Group, the two sides expressed
satisfaction on the existing cordial and cooperative relations between
the two countries and called for greater efforts to fully utilize the
potential that exists for promotion of bilateral ties.—Agencies |
