15000 flats to be constructed for low paid employees

Islamabad—Senate Standing Committee on Housing and Works was informed
that one thousand flats for the low paid government employees (BS-1-16)
have been constructed and ready for handing over to them on ownership
basis soon.
It was also informed that the Prime Minister has directed that another
fifteen thousands such flats be constructed for the government employees
in the next phase to be given to the government employees on easy
installments on ownership basis. The Committee which met at the
Parliament House under the Chairmanship of Senator Shuja-ul-Mulk on
Thursday underlined the need for transparency and directed the Ministry
of Housing and Works and the FGEHF to ensure that relevant rules and
regulations are strictly observed and the flats are handed over on
merit.
The Committee was also given a presentation on the latest position of
the housing schemes launched by the Federal Government Employees Housing
Foundation (FGEHF) in sectors D-12, E-12, G-13 and G-14 of the Federal
Capital. The Committee was informed that no development work in sector
E-12 could be undertaken by CDA for non acquisition of land owing to
dispute with land owners. It was however told that major portion of land
has been acquired in sector D-12 where the development work is in
progress. It directed the CDA to expedite acquisition of land in E-12
and get the bottlenecks removed.
The DG (FGEHF) apprised the Committee of the infrastructural development
of G-13 and G-14/4 and said that construction of roads, drainage,
water-supply and sewerage system is likely to be completed within one
and a half year. He also highlighted various grey areas which resulted
in the delay of smooth implementation of development work in G-13 and
G-14/4. The Committee, while reviewing the progress of development work
on the construction of the Mazar of Hazrat Lal Shahbaz Qalandar by
National Construction took strong exception to the inordinate delay in
the completion of Dargah Sehwan Sharif Shrine Complex being constructed
at a total cost of Rs. 498.00 million directed the authorities concerned
to expedite work in this regard.
The meeting was attended by Senators Hafiz Abdul Malik Qadri,
Shuja-ul-Mulk, Bibi Yasmeen Shah, Dr. Abdul Khaliq Pirzada, Sardar
Muhammad Jamal Khan Leghari, Mir Mohabbat Khan Marri and Maulana Rahat
Hussain. Secretary Housing and Works, Mr. Abdul Rauf Chaudhry, Secretary
Senate, Raja Muhammad Amin and senior officers of the Ministry of
Housing and Works, FGEHF and PHA were also present. |
