India to free
60 Pakistanis
NEW DELHI—India would be releasing 60
Pakistani prisoners on December 22, while
412 Indian prisoners from Pakistan side
were likely to be freed by December 25.
This decision to swap prisoners was taken
in the meeting of the foreign secretaries
of both the countries held here last
month, which also had specifically
mentioned the deadline by December 25.
PTI said that at least 483 Pakistani
prisoners, including 40 fishermen, were
behind the bar in the Indian jails, while
Pakistani officials were provided access
to 253 prisoners and, from among them, 75
were confirmed as Pakistanis, out of
which, 60 prisoners would be freed on
December 22, while the remaining would
soon be released on completion of the
necessary formalities.
Indian officials told that nearly 700
Indian citizens were captives in the
Pakistani prisons, which included 532
fishermen, of whom, 412 have been
confirmed as Indian citizens and they were
expected to be freed by December
