Army, Wapda neck to neck in national wushu
RAWALPINDI—Pakistan Army and WAPDA headed for a tight finish by
qualifying for seven finals each on the penultimate day of 13th National
Wushu Championship at Army Gymnasium on Tuesday.
The finals of 22 categories will be held on Wednesday—the last day of
this four-day martial-arts championship being organised under the
auspices of Army Sports Directorate.
Besides top-notchers Pakistan Army and Wapda, the teams of Punjab,
Balochistan and NWFP also gained berths in two finals each while one
player each from Police and Sindh made it to the final.
The other three teams participating in the championship are Pakistan
Railways, Islamabad and “Red Dragon”, said Maj. Ch. Saleem Ahmed of Army
Sports Directorate.
The following were the results of 20 bouts held on Tuesday:— The 48
KG:Babar Hussain (Punjab) bt Yasir Mehmood (Police), Yasin (Army) bt
Shahbaz (Red Dragon). The 52 KG:—Gul (Balochistan) bt Nabeel
(Islamabad), Khalil (Police) bt Tayyeb (Red Dragon).
The 56 KG:Syed Shah Wali (Army) bt Shah Jahan (Islamabad), Javed (WAPDA)
bt Aamir (Balochistan). The 60 KG:Muhammad Sarwar (Army) bt Muhammad
Shafiq (Railways), Aziz (NWFP) bt Fida Muhammad (Balochistan).
The 65 KG:Ramzan (Balochistan) bt Iftikhar Gul (NWFP), Syed Maratab (Wapda)
bt Mahaz (Sindh). The 70 KG:Zakir Ahmed (Wapda) bt Ubaid-ur-Rehman (Red
Dragon), Sajid Mehmood (Army) bt Ishfaq (Railways).
The 75 KG:Ijaz Butt (Wapda) bt Ishfaq (Police), Latif Ullah (NWFP) bt
Burhan (Railways). The 80 KG:—Kamran Khalid (Punjab) bt Saifullah (Balochistan),
Malik Zubair (Army) bt Atiq-ur-Rehman (Railways). The 85 KG:Zubair (Sindh)
bt Nazar Ali (Railways), Imran (Wapda) bt Abdul Hafeez (Army). The 90
KG:Mardan Ali (Army) bt Mansoor (Railways). The Open Weight:Abdullah (Wapda)
bt Jamaluddin (Railways).
