establishes ‘Legend Trust’

KARACHI—The Sindh government has established a trust, “Legend Trust” for
financial assistance to artists, poets, writers, journalists, players
and other persons who have served the country with their memorable work
in any filed.
This was announced by Governor Sindh Dr Ishratul Ibad Khan on Tuesday in
a ceremony held at Governor House. He also announced that the Sindh
government would also establish Legend Cooperative Housing Society to
provide housing facilities to those legends, who still had not their own
house.
He informed that the provincial government has already allocated Rs 50
million for establishment of the trust in current fiscal year, adding
that it was also decided that an appropriate amount would be allocated
in every year’s budget for the trust.
Dr Ishrat apprised that the board of trustee would be consisted of 11
members in which government secretaries would also be included, however,
a comprehensive laws were prepared in which powers of government
officials would be limited, while other stakeholders would be made more
powerful so that the operation of the board could be run in transparent
manner, beside, no political person would be member of the board which
consequently eliminate the political influence.
The Governor Sindh said that the independent board of trustee would make
ensure to assist the genuine and needy writers, poets and other legends,
whether they are in favour or against the incumbent government.
He informed that the board would also collect funds from
philanthropists, besides government funds. These funds would be utilized
for the solution of lengends’ problems, their children education and
health etc.
Minister for Tourism and Culture , Rauf Siddique, congratulated the
Governor Sindh for the establishment of “Legends Trusts” and asked the
writers, poets and other stakeholders to gather at this platform and
demand their rights without any hesitation.
It was decided that the trust would help to the legends with dignity and
respect, he added.
The ceremony was also addressed by Jameeluddin Aali, Jehangir Khan, Moen
Akter, Telat Hussain, Mehmood Sham, Siraj Qasim Teeli and others. |
