Top players
to feature in IC Open Tennis
LAHORE—Top players of the country will lock horns in the IC Open
National Ranking Tennis Championship to be played here at Bagh-e-Jinnah
from December 19 to 24. The International Lawn Tennis Club of Pakistan
member of the IC a global tennis body having members all around the
world will be organizing the competition.
The secretary IC Pakistan, Saeed Ahmed and Ijaz Ahmed Managing Director
of Yummy Milk Products told a press conference held here on Monday that
the up-coming tournament would be IC Pakistan’s first step to promote
tennis in the country.
Saeed Ahmed said the IC would select top performing players from the
upcoming competition to represent Pakistan for Junior Challenge Cup next
year in India. He added that IC Pakistan would send two boys and two
girls aged under 16 for the event to be held in March 2007.
Highlighting the details of the upcoming Lahore’s tournament, Saeed
Ahmed said a handsome prize money of Rs.4,50,000 would be offered in the
competition that include Rs.50,000 for men’s winner and Rs.25,000 for
ladies winner. Besides, the original prize money of Rs. 4,50,000 a total
of Rs. 1,50,000 would also be given to the best performing junior.
The events in the tournament include men’s singles, ladies, junior U-17,
girls U-17, boys U-15 and body U-13 singles competitions while double
events includes men’s, senior 40 plus and senior 50 plus categories. A
total of 175 entries were received for eight events with a draw of 32
for Men’s Singles and Junior Under-17 Singles and Boys-15 singles, All
other draws are of 16 players. Organizers also added Girls Under-13
event in the Tournament.As per sending Aqeel Khan of WAPDA is Top Seed
for Men’s singles even where as Jalil Khan (WAPDA) is 2nd seed Asim
Shafiq (Third Seed), Nomi Qamar (4TH Seed) Inam Gul (5th seed) M.Shafiq
(10th seed) Shazad Khan (7th seed) and Yasir Khan 8th seed.
In Junior Under-17 Singles Yasir Khan is Top Seed, Tanveer Ashiq (2nd
seed). In Ladies singles Sara Mehboob is Top seed and Natsha Afridi is
